MINDS Mapping is a therapeutic assessment process designed to help individuals better understand how their brain, nervous system, sensory systems, attention, and emotional regulation patterns work. Unlike traditional psychological evaluations that focus primarily on diagnosis, MINDS Mapping combines neurodiversity-affirming assessment with collaborative exploration to create a personalized understanding of your strengths, challenges, and support needs.

MINDS stands for Misunderstood, Intersectionally Neurodiverse, and Silenced.

The term was developed to acknowledge that many individuals whose brains function differently have historically been misunderstood, marginalized, or pressured to conform to expectations that were not designed with their experiences in mind.

While the term neurodivergent has helped increase awareness and acceptance of neurological differences, it also implicitly defines people in relation to a presumed neurotypical standard.

The term MINDS shifts the focus away from comparison to a normative standard and instead centers the lived experiences of individuals whose ways of thinking, feeling, processing, learning, communicating, and relating to the world may differ from dominant cultural expectations.

MINDS is an inclusive term that may encompass individuals who identify as autistic, ADHD, OCD, bipolar, gifted, highly sensitive, dyslexic, or otherwise neurodiverse. It recognizes that neurological diversity is a natural part of human variation and that differences are often shaped not only by neurobiology, but also by social, cultural, and systemic factors.

Throughout this website, you may see the terms MINDS, neurodiverse, and neurodivergent used in different contexts. While each term has its own history and meaning, MINDS reflects our commitment to understanding people through a strengths-based, affirming, and person-centered lens.

MINDS Mapping may help clarify experiences related to:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • OCD
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Sensory Processing Differences
  • Executive Functioning Challenges
  • Emotional Regulation Difficulties
  • Burnout and Chronic Stress
  • Other neurotypes and forms of neurodivergence

The goal is not simply to assign a label, but to understand how your unique brain and nervous system function.

MINDS Mapping is a therapeutic assessment process designed to foster deeper self-understanding rather than focusing solely on diagnosis. The primary goal is to understand how your brain, nervous system, sensory systems, attention, emotional regulation, strengths, and challenges interact to shape your daily experiences.

When clinically appropriate, diagnostic impressions may be assigned as part of the process. However, diagnosis is not the primary focus of MINDS Mapping. Rather than asking only whether someone meets criteria for a particular condition, we seek to understand the whole person and provide individualized recommendations that support well-being, self-understanding, and meaningful change.

For many clients, the most valuable outcome is not simply receiving a diagnosis, but gaining clarity about their experiences and identifying practical strategies that help them thrive.

MINDS Mapping may be a good fit if you are looking for more than a diagnosis and want a deeper understanding of how your brain, nervous system, sensory processing, attention, and life experiences interact.

The process is designed to provide clarity, validation, and practical recommendations that can be applied in everyday life.
